Tuesday afternoon area athletes competed at the 2023 OBU Bison Invitational Track Meet, in Shawnee, Ok. This annual meet consisted of both small and large high school teams,, from classes 5A to 2A. Two Chandler athletes, along with Meeker, Prague, and Stroud High Schools competed at the OBU Bison Invitational. Kileigh Mixon (Stroud H.S.) set her eyes on making school history. In the 100-meter hurdles, Mixon ran a season best 15.43 seconds to secure a first place finish, while breaking her own 2021 school record of 15.54 secs. Last week, Mixon was a half an inch away from breaking a 44-year-old school record, in the long jump, This week, however, Mixon was able to break that school record by jumping 18 ft and 1 inch, to take home first place and breaking a second school record for the day. The 44 year record was previously held by former Stroud track star Wilma Riley, who jumped 17 ft and 4 inches in 1979.
Mixon also competed in the High Jump event and took home first place, including anchoring the 4x100 meter relay to place second in that event. Chandler athlete James Duncan competed individually in the large school division, in the 110-meter high hurdles, and ran a season best of 15.05 seconds to take home first place. Chandler typically competes in the small school division, however, Duncan took on the challenge of competing against the large school athletes and succeeded.
